You know that thing where you think of somebody you haven’t thought about for a long time and then the next day you see that person or hear some piece of news about them? Twenty years ago Nick Clooney (George’s dad and Rosemary’s brother) was the first anchor of the newly launched Fox Local News program in Salt Lake City. He was a hilarious combination of Walter Cronkite and The Muppet Newsman — never has a local newscaster read the teleprompter with such gravitas.
He was a bit of a punching bag on the local morning wacky DJ shows and didn’t last more than a couple of years, if that. I think he ended up in Buffalo and had a mini-breakdown, and then about the time that his son’s career started taking off, he became a host on AMC, with a much more composed and personable demeanor.
Anyway, I hadn’t thought of him in years, but then yesterday, seemingly for no reason, he came to mind. And then I check tumblr this morning and he’s all over the dashboard with his signature suit and awesome brillo-pad hair. Weird.
