Rev. Jim Martin, S.J. wrote a nice article on Beck v. Bible.
If you’re going to listen to a priest, do yourself a favor and make sure it’s a Jesuit.
Not be be too cute, but amen, Rev. Martin. Definitely worth the read.
FYI, I “fixed” the link from Huffington Post to its original source, America Magazine, so that they get the credit and the ad revenue rather than Ariana.
Pro Tip (not directed at you, Mike): Before you read a “blog post” on Huffington Post, scroll to the bottom of the article and see if there is a note and link to the original source. For this article, right at the very end it says
This essay is adapted from a post on America’s In All Things.
As far as I can tell, this is not an adaptation but a word-for-word reprint. They just took it. They do that with a lot of stories and make more money off of it than the writers or the original publishers. They are not adapting, excerpting, or fair-using — they are stealing.
As somebody who has both been paid for writing and has paid others for their writing and other creative work, I think what the Huffington Post does, even in the cases where they pay (usually a pittance) is really shitty and goes against the core principles of Creative Commons and just plain good-neighborliness. That’s why I don’t read a Huffington Post article until I’m sure that it doesn’t appear elsewhere. I won’t call for a boycott but ask that you read and share conscientiously by taking three seconds to check the bottom of each article to see its original source and, if it’s not too much trouble, go enjoy the story there.
I’m usually loathe
